The new SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is the first lens to offer Sony E-mount APS-C cameras an equivalent focal length of 24mm (in 24x36) with an F1.4 aperture. For Micro Four Thirds mount, the focal length is equivalent to 32mm (in 24x36) with the same F1.4 aperture. This is truly the bright wide-angle lens that users of these cameras have been waiting for.
Designed to be both lightweight and compact for everyday use, SIGMA DN lenses for mirrorless cameras deliver superior performance at key focal lengths. This new lens builds on the success of the 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, the first ultra-bright mirrorless lens released by SIGMA in 2016. The 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary combines a maximum aperture of F1.4 with very high-level optical performance.
Based on the same concept as the SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, the 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is composed of 16 elements in 13 groups and uses very high-quality materials. Its optical formula minimizes various aberrations and ensures very high resolution from full aperture. Its optical design and stepping motor ensure continuous focusing in video, and the bayonet mount features a seal against dust and splashes.

Image quality that rivals that of the Art line
With 16 elements in 13 groups, the optical formula uses a wide variety of innovative and high-end components, including three FDL glass elements, two SLD glass elements, and two molded aspherical lenses. This formula minimizes optical aberrations and ensures impressive resolution from full aperture. The two aspherical lenses benefit from ultra-high precision polishing with a tolerance of less than 10 nanometers, minimizing the risk of the "onion ring" effect in the bokeh that some aspherical lenses can produce and ensuring great field uniformity. Finally, the structure of the optical formula directs light rays to minimize sagittal coma flare and provides optimal optical performance from the center to the edges of the image. The result is a soft and round bokeh effect, with uniform brightness across the entire frame.
